"I only went out for a walk and finally concluded to stay out til sundown, for going out, I found, was really going in." John Muir, 1913

WALK STRONG IN GREENFIELD, WI
OCTOBER 8 & 9, 2011

“Once you try Nordic walking, you will never want to fitness walk the old fashioned way again," says Nordic Walk Now founder and education director Suzanne Nottingham, who is producing her annual event WALK STRONG for the third consecutive year, hosted by the Greenfield Parks & Recreation Department on October 8 & 9, with the Greenfield Community Center as the venue with both an outdoor and indoor rain location.

What she and her team will really doing is inspiring a perspective shift for a very old activity, walking for health.  “Using poles allows one to become a more proficient walker. Your posture is upright; your head weight is centered over your shoulders and pelvis. Poles allow you to target upper body muscles in your back and core…your body works in unison…with muscle balance.” If this sounds like a Pilates class combined with walking, you are on the right track. Nottingham’s message is that using fitness poles to walk offers an opportunity to change your walking workouts forever with a derivative benefit of improved posture, muscle balance, less chronic pain and more.

This year’s event focuses on providing the City of Greenfield and surrounding communities with empowering free clinics (complete schedule TBA) throughout the day Saturday October 8 to introduce as many people as possible to this compelling activity, commencing on Saturday at the newly renovated Greenfield Community Center at 9am, join industry leaders Tom Rutlin of Exerstrider (Madison, WI) and Linda Lemke (St. Louis Park, MN), for a fun “WALK WITH THE KING & QUEEN” of Nordic walking.

On Sunday October 9, begin your day with another free class at 8am taking a “WALK IN THE WORD” with spiritualist Rachael Clark (Azusa, CA), an easy experience that focuses on getting in touch with your higher power, your body, and nature. These classes are free to the community.

Also on Sunday are two fee-based intensive workshops. First, calling all teaching professionals! Register for the brand new Exerstride Method Nordic Walking (EMNW) Teacher Training 4 hour course from 9:30am-12:30pm. This course is targeted at those who have teaching experience already (see website for details).

In the afternoon, from 1:30-4:30pm is the very popular Nordic Walk Now Walk To Live Workshop for anyone who would like to enhance personal fitness goals using poles.

Pre-registration is recommended for both of these courses. Register Now!

No Nordic walking experience is necessary and demo poles are provided for all classes, workshops and trainings.

Suzanne Nottingham, Tom Rutlin and their top level teaching teams are dedicated to supporting growth of Nordic walking fitness and continuing education to keep the world walking stronger. WALK STRONG is the vehicle to lead by example, the place to walk the talk, and the time to inspire positive changes in your body, just by adding poles.

Passion is what leads the growth of new sports. The Greenfield Parks and Recreation Department shares our vision and passion that fitness walking with specially designed poles has compelling benefits for any person, of any ability or fitness level. Please join the Nordic walking revolution and change your walking workouts forever. We look forward to walking stronger with you.

Welcome to Nordic Walk Now.

Nordic walking offers many physiological benefits including heart health, weight loss, promotes excellent posture, back health and more. Using Nordic walking poles for fitness or stability facilitates a full-body stimulation, an interaction with the downward pull of gravity that creates bone density and spreads the effort throughout your body. Proper skills and safe techniques bring about a user-friendly, low-impact workout experience. Use of poles is ageless and without limits, from kids to grandmas to athletes, and those with disabilities. more info
